Perlubie Beach

Last Updated on 13 February 2026 by Rob

Perlubie Beach is arguably the crown jewel of the Eyre Peninsula’s coastal camping, offering the rare opportunity to park your rig right on the white sands near Streaky Bay. It is the ultimate “doorstep to the ocean” experience, where you can wake up to calm, turquoise waters and spend your days fishing for King George Whiting, exploring the endless coastline or enjoying a drink at the end of the day. While it was once a free-for-all, the site now operates under a booking system to ensure its preservation, making it a must-visit for travellers who want that iconic beach-shack vibe without the crowds of a commercial park.

Campground Layout and Features

The campground has 20 bookable sites. There are an additional 10 sites for locals. The sites are at the top of the beach and are well marked.

At the sites, no facilities are provided. There are toilets next to the ramp you drive down onto the beach.

A 4WD is required to access the sites. While we had no issues getting onto our site at highway pressures, you need to make your own assessment.

The fee to stay at this camp is $30 per night and must be booked online.  Check-in is from 2pm, and check-out is at midday. The maximum stay is two weeks. This is a popular site, so you must book well in advance. If you can’t get a booking, you may like to consider staying at Perlubie Park.

Perlubie Beach Campsite Location

The camping area is a 20km drive north of Streaky Bay. It is accessed via good-quality sealed roads.

What to Watch Out For at Perlubie Beach Campground

You must consider the tides at this site. It is not unknown for the water to encroach on the sites. For tidal information, we use Tides Australia (for Android and iOS).

Keep in mind that you need a 4WD.

Being on the beach, you are exposed to the wind, which can be strong in this location.

Final Words

This is a stunning campground. The sunsets are magic, just sit back and relax. It’s one of those sites that should not be missed.

Closeby Campgrounds

If you are heading south along the coast, you may like to stay at Tractor Beach.

For those heading west, we have Fowlers Bay Bush Camp.
