Little Pine Lagoon is a small campground in Tasmania’s Central Highland Region. It is part of the Little Pine Lagoon Lakeside Conservation Reserve. When the weather is cooperative, it is a wonderful place to stop.
The site overlooks the lagoon where fly fishing and boating are permitted.
To stay at Little Pine Lagoon, you must be fully self-contained as no facilities are supplied.
Pets are not permitted at this campground.
Tents are permitted.
Fires are not permitted.

Campground Layout and Features
Little Pine Lagoon has about 15 marked and unmarked sites. Of these, there are about 3 tent sites. In a separate area, there are nine marked sites for vans. The sites are on longish grass, and some have longer grass than others. The levelness of the sites also varies. A couple of sites are quite flat, while others undulate a bit. The sites are marked with lines of rocks. If most sites are full, getting in and out could be tight.
The sites are unpowered, and no water connection is available. No potable water is available at this site.
The nearest public toilet is 1km at a nearby boat ramp.
No other facilities are provided.
This is a free site. At one point, it had toilet facilities and was a paid site. It has become a little unkept since. The payment box is still at the site, but it was evident that it hadn’t been used lately.
Little Pine Lagoon Campsite Location
Little Pine Lagoon can be accessed from the north and south via the Highland Lakes Road. Near Miena, turn to the west and follow the unsealed Marlborough Highway for 7.2km, turning right into Little Pine Lagoon. The site can also be accessed from the west along the highway. The map below shows the campground’s location. You can zoom out for a more general location.
What to Watch Out For at Little Pine Lagoon Campground
The only problem that we observed that may be an issue was the insects. There are many bees, march flies, and mosquitoes at night. They did not bother us much.
Keep in mind that this site is a little over 1000m. There is no vegetation to provide shelter, and as such, it is exposed to the elements. During inclement weather, this may be a good site to avoid. It is not unknown to have snow at this site in the middle of summer.
Final Words
The weather was perfect during our visit. We really enjoyed our stay and recommend it during spells of good weather.
