Home Valley Station

Last Updated on 25 January 2026 by Rob

Home Valley Station is located near the Pentecost River. It is a full-service facility. Unlike the vast majority of of our campgrounds it is not low cost but we include it due to the remoteness.

View from the River Bush Camp at Home Valley Station.

To stay at this campground you do not need to be self-contained as toilets or showers are provided

Pets are permitted at this campground.

Tents are permitted.

Fires are permitted.

While we cover the two areas at this campground, we stayed at their remote site away from the homestead.

Campground Layout and Features

The station provides full facilities. They have a bar and restraurant, swimming pool, playground, fuel and laundry in addition to showers and toilets.

As you would expect, the sites are well manicured, flat and marked.

The station has two distinct areas. Around the homestead there are powered and unpowered sites. All of the supplied faciilites are provided here. There is also internet and phone services available. If you wish to stay at the more remote site you still need to check in before proceeding to your site.

The remote River Bush Camp is accessed via a 5km track. The site overlooks the Pentecost River and across to the Cockburn Range. It is a beautiful place to stay. There are two types of sites here with both being unpowered. The Riverview sites have an unblocked view with the Bushview sites are behing them. The Riverview sites are allocated while the bush views are not. The only facilities provided here is a toilet and shower block and some shelters. If you need water fill up before leaving the homestead.

Unpowered sites do not need be booked. They have many and state that they will be able to accommodate you. As there are only 20 powered sites they should be booked before arrival.

Other then the powered sites and the River View sites at River Bush Camp all sites are unallocated. Just find a site you like.

This is a remote full-service facility and it is reflected in the pricing. Powered sites are $84 per night for two adults. Unpowered sites are $56 a night.

Home Valley Station Location

The homestead is just 1.6km from Gibb River Road. It is a 10km drive from the Pentecost River. At present, you need a high clearance 4WD to cross the river. The road is sealed to the east from the river, and we believe that the work we saw during our visit will result in the sealed road being extended to the Home Valley access road.

The map below shows the campground’s location. You can zoom out for a more general location.

Final Words

We enjoyed our stay at the River Bush Camp. The sunset over the Cockburn Range was amazing.

We decided to stay at this campground for a night as we wanted to get a good site at the free camp at the Pentecost River crossing. We had heard reports that this camp was very busy. As we arrived early we had the pick of a few very good sites.

You can book online, expecially if you wish to have a powered site.

This site features on our comprehensive Gibb River itinerary.
