Deloraine RV Rest Area is conveniently located in the picturesque town of Deloraine. It is run by the local council. It is a great base from which you can explore the town and surrounding area.
The campsite is accessed by good quality roads.

At this site, there are strict rules regarding what constitutes self-contained. You must be self-contained and ‘contain all black and grey water in holding tanks or cassettes for disposal.’ You must have a ‘fresh water supply and be fitted with a plumbed sink.’ You must also ‘have capacity to retain all waster for a minimum of three days.’ However, the last one does not make sense as there is a dump point on site.
Given the very strict requirements for water containment, we did not meet them and had no issues. Our sink is not plumbed in and we do not have a holding tank in our van as it has been converted to a fresh water tank. We collect our wastewater in 20L jerry cans and dispose of it appropriately. I am not saying that you will not have a problem, but if you are reasonable, you should be OK if you are in a caravan.
On a subsequent visit, there was a tent, so it appears that no checks for compliance are being made.
No toilets are provided at this site.
Pets are permitted.
Due to the water containment requirements tents, including roof-top tents, are not permitted.
To stay at the site, you must buy a permit. They can be purchased at the visitor centre (98-100 Emu Bay Road Deloraine or online. The cost is $3 per night, which is a bargain.

Campground Layout and Features
As per the requirements, this site can accommodate a maximum of 20 vans for a maximum of three nights. That said, I believe there were more than 20 vans during our stay.
The sites are located on the right-hand side of the access road as you enter. Once past the tennis club there is a larger area on the left. The sites are grassy and fairly flat. The area is prone to flooding.
Rubbish bins and a dump point are provided. No other facilities are provided.
Deloraine RV Rest Area Campsite Location
The campsite is on the eastern side of the Meander River, a walkable distance from central Deloraine. The map below shows its location. You may zoom out for a more general location.
What to Watch Out For at Deloraine RV Rest Area Campground
As detailed above, be aware of the wastewater containment requirements. Also, be wary of the river level in wet conditions as the site is prone to flooding.
Be mindful that council workers pass through the area if you have young ones. We noted that sometimes they drive a bit too fast.
Due to its location and bargain price, this is a popular site. Plan to arrive as early as possible.
Final Words
We enjoyed our time in Deloraine. The town is relaxed and beautiful. The campsite is a great place to do your exploring from.
If you are keen to walk, you can visit nearby Liffey Falls. A more challenging walk is to the summit of Quamby Bluff.
You can get your camping permit here.
