Campground Layout and Features
St Lawrence Recreational Reserve camping area is a large site. Camping is mainly on gravel sites with some grassed areas. It can be separated into three different areas. Two or of them are located either side of the amenities and the third is a large open area further from the amenities block.
Toilets and showers are provided. Showers cost $1 per three minutes. You pay for them by inserting dollar coins into a machine. Unfortunately, these machines are located outside the shower, and the time starts when coins are inserted. Our suggestion is to insert $2 and enjoy a longer shower.
A dump point and rubbish bins are provided. No water to fill van tanks is provided. There are taps scattered in the area, but these must be isolated somewhere as no water flows from them. Some people filed containers from taps at the amenities block, but it looked awkward. Water is available in town for a fee.
The fee to stay at this campground is $14 per night. The fee is payable at the council offices or over the phone on 47 22 27. Sites are available on a first come first serve basis.

During our night we did not identify any issues while at this campground.
Final Words
We really enjoyed our relax during our stay here and recommend it.
There is a similar facility at the nearby St Lawrence Hotel. We walked into town and noticed that people were being directed to park their vans very close together. By close, I mean about 2m apart! You will have much more space at the campground detailed on this page.
Closeby Campgrounds
If you are planning a stop near Mackay Rowellan Park Campground provides a good option. Heading south, you may want to consider the Marlborough Hotel Campground.
