Campground Layout and Features
Rowellan Park Campground is a large grassed site. The ground slopes down towards a lake, so you may need to level your vehicle.
There are eight powered sites with water connections. These sites are fairly flat at the top of the hill. Due to their convenience, they are popular, but the sites are closer together. The fee for the powered site is $20 per night.
Unpowered sites are unmarked. Just pick a spot that you like. The fee for unpowered sites is $15 per night.

Rowellan Park Campground Location
Rowellan Park Campground is located 9km north west of Mackay. It is accessed by good quality roads to approximately 1.1km from the site. From that point there is an unsealed track that is a bit rough. It can be driven by 2WD, if care is taken. The map below shows the location of the hotel and campground. You can zoom out for a more general location.
What to Watch Out For at Rowellan Park Campground
Due to the sloping ground, traction can be an issue for some vehicles in wet conditions. While at this campground, a motorhome attempted to drive out from the bottom of the area near the lake. Due to the conditions, winching was required to get the vehicle out.
If you have young children, be vigilant because the lake is unfenced.
Final Words
We really enjoyed our stay at this campground and recommended it. It is convenient to access Mackay, and for us, it is a better option than a caravan park closer to Mackay.
Closeby Campgrounds
If you are heading inland from Mackay you may like Finch Hatton Showgrounds. Those travelling north may consider staying at Ball Bay Campground. If heading south St Lawrence Recreational Reserve may be an option.
