Campground Layout and Features
Eight Trees Campground has up to two unmarked sites. One van can be reversed into one place, leaving an area tightly bound by trees. It would be possible to set up a roof-top tent or a small camper van there.
The area is grassed and undulates a bit. We had no issues getting our small caravan levelled. As where we parked it sloped towards the river, we ensured that the wheels were well chocked. On such sloped sites, leave your chains attached until you are sure that the van is not going to move.
No facilities are provided at this site. You must take all your rubbish with you. While there are no signs at this camping spot, we visited the one on the other side of the river (Snowy River Roadside Rest Area 1), which did have a sign. One of the requirements was that grey water could not be disposed of at the site. There is no reason to believe that the same is expected at Eight Trees.
While the site is close to the road, there is little traffic and none at night.
The campground is accessed via Lochend Road. This road is relatively narrow. If there is no space available, you can continue further as two or three further camps along the river. There is enough space to turn around at the intersection at the boat ramp, but I would not proceed any further along the river as the turning space is minimal.
Eight Trees Campsite Location
Eight Trees Campground is located on the western side of the Snowy River. It is an 8km drive from Orbost. The map below shows the campground’s location. You can zoom out for a more general location.
As the site is not obvious in the map above here is its location.

What to Watch Out For at Eight Trees Campground
This is a very small site. You should have a backup plan should it already be occupied.
Approach the site slowly as it is not obvious until you are just about at it.
Final Words
This is a lovely, quiet place to camp. We highly recommend it.
There are some larger sites on the other side of the river. We considered them but were discouraged because they are on the much busier Marlo Road.
We are not sure why this is called Eight Trees. There are only seven trees on the site, and one of them is dead.
