Campground Layout and Features

Kempton Roadside Stopover has about 12 unmarked sites. The area is fairly flat and has two distinct areas. One area is on a gravel base while the other is a lovely grassed area. Both areas have 6 sites.

The flattest area is covered in gravel. Six 15-amp plugs can be used in this area. At either end of the area is a water tap.

The grassed area does not have any power or separate available water.

There is an area that can be used in busy times for small vans. This area is on the opposite side of the road from the main sites. The ground slopes away from the road. There are probably about five sites here.

If you arrive early enough and are lucky, you may be able to use the features of both areas. During our stay, we parked on the grass very close to the gravel area. We could connect to both the electricity and the water. For the water, keep in mind that people may want to use the tap to fill their tanks, so be prepared to remove your house if necessary. Similarly, if you are leaving the site, disconnect it.

There is a toilet and shower block located nearby. You must pay at the town hall to use this facility. The cost is $10 per van, and a $20 deposit is required for the keys.

In addition to the paid facility, a public toilet is located at the rear of the town hall about 200m away.

Near the public toilet, there is a dump point. It is located a little off the road.

Adjacent to the campground is a playground and exercise area. This area has a potable water tap from which water can be sourced. There is also a BBQ.

This campground has recycling and rubbish bins.

There is no set fee for staying at this site. It is by donation, which can be placed in the secure box next to the fire hose box. If you use power, it would be fair to consider the donation separate from the fee for using the toilet and shower block.

The maximum stay at this site is 24 hours.

What to Watch Out For at Kempton Roadside Stopover

Being close to the Midland Highway, this site has some road noise, but it was not enough to disturb us at night.

Final Words

This is only the second low-cost camp that we have found power. Well done Kempton.

We enjoyed our night at this site and recommend it for those travelling the Highway.
