Campground Layout and Features
The Camp has about 6 sites on the grounds of the Puma service station. The sites are located in the back left-hand corner (as you drive in) of a truck parking area. The parking area is quite busy and some dust is stirred up as the trucks pass through. The sites are on the edge of this area next to some trees. The sites are fairly flat and unmarked.
The site is located on the Flinders Highway. The camp sites are far enough away for traffic noise to not be a problem.
In the service station toilet and shower facilities are available. There are also rubbish bins and water available.
This is a free camp and bookings are not available.
Charters Towers Free Camp Location
The campsite is a 3km drive south of Charters Towers on the Flinders Highway. The map below shows the location of the hotel and campground. You can zoom out for a more general location.
What to Watch Out For at Charters Towers Free Camp
This is not an overly-comfortable camp. Trucks turn quite close and cause a bit of dust. Consider the wind directly before selecting a site. Winds from the east may cause worse dust issues.
